Trumpet Honeysuckle Ohio

Trumpet honeysuckle is also known as coral honeysuckle.

Predator 212 trumpet header. Semi evergreen to deciduous in colder climates. They are attractive to hummingbirds butterflies and bees. This vine has showy trumpet shaped flowers red outside yellow inside in several whorled clusters at the ends of the stems.

Evergreen in warm winter regions. I have this plant on my property. Honeysuckle and trumpet vine are wonderful flowering vines that will beautify your garden and keep your neighborhood hummingbirds well fed and happy.

This is a vine it is a perennial. Sempervirens are losing habitat and their rightful chance to show off some color. Showy trumpet shaped orange scarlet flowers bloom continually throughout summer and well into fall.

We enjoy the trumpet like flowers that the vine produces during the summer months and so do the mockingbirds that visit our property. When not in bloom these very inconspicuous vines are hard to pick out from the sea of surrounding green but when you catch them at the right time as we did today its nigh on impossible to not be stopped. This native vine is sometimes call trumpet honeysuckle because of its trumpet shaped flowers.

Inedible red berries form in late summer to early fall and can be ornamentally attractive. While the non native and grossly invasive asian species are clogging our forests and woodlands with their monoculture creating terror our native species such as the above pictured trumpet honeysuckle l. Fruit a red berry.

Orange honeysuckle lonicera ciliosa is a twining form. The native trumpet honeysuckle also called coral honeysuckle lonicera sempervirens features small red berries that mature in autumn. Leaves ovate to oblong with smooth rolled down margins and a blunt or short pointed tip those immediately below the flowers fused at the base.

Papery exfoliating bark is orange brown in color. Flowers appear in late spring at stem ends in whorled clusters. Flowering in may and june and sporadically through the rest of the summer the trumpet flowers appear.

An excellent fast growing vine to cover a fence arbor or trellis. Honeysuckle lonicera are best planted where they receive a bit of afternoon shade in hotter climates.
